Congratulations, Mr. Chun!
Utah Assistant Principal of the Year

The award Mr. Chun received is from the Utah Association of Secondary School Principals. He was selected by this organization as the Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year for the State of Utah. He will represent this organization and the state of Utah at the National conference where the winners from each state will be in attendance.

"I don't know that this award means anything, other than the fact that I am surrounded by good people, and have been all my life! This award is just a reflection of how others have supported me in my endeavors, and that includes the students, parents, teachers and staff members at Dixon Middle School! I hope to represent all of you very well."

"What I love working about at Dixon is the diversity of students and their warm, kind and fun spirits. I love the teachers and staff members that are also full of love and a willingness to help others. Dixon parents are involved and supportive, and I enjoy seeing them dressed in their blue vests patrolling our halls and lunchroom. Overall, Dixon is a fun place to be and I can't imagine working at any other school," said Mr. Chun.

Mr. Chun has always loved participating in sports and dance and music performance. He met my wife, Nizhoni, at BYU and together they have four children, Clayton-7, Camilla-5, Corban-3, Cumorah-1. He is currently working on his doctorate degree at the University of Utah in Educational Leadership.

An Academic Plan to Help Students Succeed at Dixon

We want to help our students do well academically. The following are ways we plan to give support to struggling students who need additional focus and encouragement. Parents you can provide your students with encouragement, help, and support too.

Level I Intervention: (2 weeks into each term--failing class)

  • Teacher will send progress report home with student and contact parents.
  • Teacher will meet individually with student to establish an academic success plan. (Arrangements with teachers to make up work, Power Hour, tracker support, etc.)

*Over the next two weeks, teacher will meet with student to determine progress. If student is still failing, move to level II.

Level II Intervention: (4 weeks into each term)

  • Teacher will make phone contact with parents and refer student to counselor.
  • Counselor will review homework plan with student and mail progress report home.
  • Counselor will assign student to mandatory homework help in Power Hour 3 x per week.

*At the end of two weeks, counselor will remove student from mandatory Power Hour if student is passing all classes.

Level III Intervention: (6 weeks into each term)

  • Counselor/teacher will refer student to administration.
  • Administration will set up parent-teacher-administrator conference to discuss intervention plan.
  • Student will be required to attend lunch hour homework help for two weeks.
  • Student will be required to attend Grade Recovery held in the library from 3-4pm daily for two weeks.

* If grades are current at the end of two weeks, student will be removed from Grade Recovery.

Level IV Intervention: (Student fails the term)

  • Parent-teacher-counselor-administrative conference to discuss possible class change.
  • Student will start the term in mandatory Power Hour 3 days a week for two weeks.
  • Student will be referred to appropriate credit intervention.
  • Student will be referred to level II intervention if grades are not current for two weeks.

Together we can accomplish great things.
